Weekly Plans and Activities for February 5 – 9

Morning Activities and Journal Writing (practice using sight words: saw, yes, are, because)

  • M – sight word book, The Hearts (with, are, review: do, you, see, the, for)
  • T – Journals (sight word: saw) 
  • W – Penguin Mystery Picture, identifying numerals
  • Th – Winter Fluency Find It Game (ending sounds)
  • F – Yes/No Graphing (Does your first name have more letters than your last name?),  Champs Assembly

Morning Message:

  • M –digraphs (sh, ch), identify middle sounds, writing numbers (same, 1 more, 1 less)
  • T – stretch out sound to write words, rhyming words, show one less than, counting by 10’s to 100
  • W – blends (fl, sl, pl), write a number sentence (subtraction), reading sight word sentences with expression and counting words in a sentence
  • Th –fill in the missing words to complete the sentence, finish the number bonds, matching pictures to words
  • F – Champs Assembly

Writing

Reading:

  • Books – Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons,  Hamilton Duck, A Letter For Amy, Cock-A-Doodle-Doo! Barnyard Hullabaloo, The Day It Rained Hearts
  • Poem – 100 Days of School, I Like Hearts
  • Focus – Compound Words, sight words, chunks, Capitalization, Punctuation, Word Families
  • Questions – Retell Beginning, Middle, End…, In the Beginning…, Next…, At the end…, What does this remind you of (connections)
  • Phonics Lessons  and Activities- cvc words/boxes, blending, final phonemes, compound words

Math: (model the action of separating to represent subtraction)

  • M –Number Talk: I have ____ I wish I had ___.
  • T – Use foam hearts to create addition number sentences.
  • W –use the Pete the Cat Work Mat to model subtraction using buttons. 
    Th – MIMIO: Five Little Monkeys Subtraction
  • F – Sing or Read Five Little Monkeys and act out subtraction problems with monkey puppets, students will color and paste monkeys on their page to make a subtraction story

Science/Social Studies:

  • M – Brainpopjr: Seasons, review Social Studies Magazine and activities, students will draw themselves in their favorite season, wearing the clothing they would wear during that season.
