Weekly Plans and Activities

Morning Activities and Journal Writing (practice using sight words: my, you, look

  • M – find the word, “you” and read the, You can go! book
  • T – Draw a picture of someone you love and write, I love you!
  • W – find the word, “look” and read the, Look Book
  • Th –Students will use a Thanksgiving word page in their writing folder to write a sentence. L
  • F – Sight Word Bingo

Morning Message:

  • M – Sequence of letters, students will write the missing letter in the sequence
  • T – Halloween word web and sentence building
  • W – Stretch and Write words
  • Th –unscramble letters/words and put them in the correct order
  • F – Sight Word Bingo and finding/fixing mistakes in sight word sentences

Interactive Writing:

  • M- Continue making and reading Class Books – Who Do You See On Halloween? How Many Syllables?
  • T – Halloween Write Around the Room
  • W-F – I am thankful for _____ interactive writing class chart
    • students will draw a picture and add labels of a time that they had fun
    • Read The Listening Walk and go on a listening walk, students will draw pictures and add labels of things they hear on the listening walk

Reading:

  • Books – There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey, Thanksgiving for Emily Ann, Pete The Cat Thanksgiving
  • Poems – You Need, Glad I’m Not a Turkey, Give Thanks, Hello Mr. Turkey
  • Focus – identify the main idea & the reason the author wrote the book. Locate letter, word, & sentence and sight words.  Review syllables & letter sounds by clapping out the syllables in the sight words found and also identifying  their beginning sound.
  • Questions –identify the main character, setting, and details in their story. In writing we talk about WHO, WHAT, WHEN, & WHERE.?  We will also use these in our reading discussion.
  • Phonics Lessons  and Activities- beginning sounds, syllables, CVC word boxes,  students will draw a pic of the setting and characters that will be at their family Thanksgiving.

Math:

  • M – Discuss different ways of counting using anchor chart and counting jar
  • T – ways to make 5 using 5 frames and red/yellow counters
  • W –early release
  • Th – create a picture graph, discuss results
  • F – Math all around us, brainstorm list of places we see math in our world around us

Science – continue study on bats and community helpers

Great News!!

“Wiggle Wobble Seats and Open-Ended Learning with Osmos” was just funded.

Our class  project, “Wiggle Wobble Seats and Open-Ended Learning with Osmos” has been fully funded! Our new wiggle seats and OSMO technology are on their way and we can’t wait to start enjoying these materials. We are so thankful for all of your  votes that went towards the funding of our project!

It’s Red Ribbon Week!

  •  Oct. 24  Don’t snooze – stay alert and away from drugs! Wear pajamas (pajamas must follow dress code)
  • Oct. 25  Make your future bright. Don’t do drugs! Wear sports or college shirt and crazy socks

Morning Activities and Journal Writing (practice using sight words: is, put, my

  • M – find the word is and read the Community Helpers book
  • T – What will you put in your Halloween bucket? Students will write the sentence: I will put ____ in my bucket. (students will glue a picture of candy)
  • W-Th – Draw a picture of your sports outfit and things you need to play that sport, label picture, and write sentences about your drawing
  • F – Write sentence: I like my ____. Students will glue picture (cat, dog, ball, book)

Morning Message:

  • M – Letter Nn, Can you think of some other things that start with Nn? write uppercase/lowercase Nn
  • T – Let’s think of some words that rhyme!
  • W –Letter Qq, Can you think of some other things that start with Qq? write uppercase/lowercase Qq
  • Th –Let’s clap the words and count the syllables! What is your favorite food, clap it, count it

Writing:

  • M-T – Class Book – Who Do You See On Halloween? Students will draw  pictures of them wearing their costume and then make a book similar to Brown Bear, Brown Bear.
  • W – Th – Class Book – How Many Syllables, each student will clap their first and last name, and put stickers under their name to indicate how many syllables are in their name
  • F – Boo! Interactive Writing

Reading:

  • Books – Yuck Soup, Orange Pumpkin, Brown Bear, Llama Llama Red Pajamas
  • Focus – Discuss sequencing, predictions, story elements, beginning sounds
  • Questions – Who is the main character?  What are some things she likes to do? What is a setting? Who is the book about?  What did character do?  How did the book end? How the story could be made better?
  • Sight words: put, in, is, my, color words
  • Activities- students will locate letter, word, sentence in the book. Students will choose an animal in the book and draw a pic of a word that starts with that beginning letter. Make words that rhyme with the animals names.

  • M – Subitizing Flash game, use magnetic ten frames to make one more or one less of what was rolled on dice.
  • T – Math Halloween Problem Solving, using pictures to solve problem, Match Dominoes to Correct Numbers, Students make their own counting books using numbers 1-6
  • W –Roll and Record 2 (#s 2-9) students will roll dice and can write number in correct column, number matching using paper cups
  • Th – experiment, which 3d shapes roll, slide, stack?
  • F – Counting jar

This is a group project that will provide one OSMO for each kindergarten teacher at White Oak if it gets funded by Sonic.

Morning Activities and Journal Writing (practice using sight words: little, in, and color words):

  • M – I see a little ____.
  • T – We can go in the ____. (students will glue pictures of vehicles to go with their sentence)
  • W-Th – Color Word Book (students will draw and write about each color)

Morning Message:

  • M – Students will use letter/word monster to find letters and words in message
  • T – Students will name the sight that have been left out of the message. Students will name the numbers that are missing.
  • W – Discuss words with the beginning sound (m), students will write an uppercase and lowercase Mm
  • Th – Students will stretch out sounds to write three letter words

Writing:

  • M – Continue Bat KWL chart, use sentence frames to write about Halloween Stickers.
  • T – Continue Labeling a bat, Review Writer reference folder, students will write about an idea they have in their head in their journals.
  • W – Th – Continue with students sharing writing and heart maps with class in authors chair

Reading:

  • Books – Stellaluna, Orange Pumpkin, The Day The Crayons Quit, Scaredy-Cat, Splat

  • Phonics Lessons – Hearing Words in Sentences and Hearing Syllables

Math:

  • M – Counting Jar: Recording
    • Count items in counting jar. Students will make their idea on a post it and place it on a counting jar chart.
    • Create a Real Life Graph using 3D shapes students have brought in
  • T – Students will sort pattern blocks by attributes. Students will work in partners using attribute cards.
  • W –Roll and Record 2 (#s 2-9) students will roll dice and can write number in correct column.
    • Activity: Sort shapes by how many sides they have.
  • Th – Students will use a balance scale to measure different items around the classroom to see what is heavier.
    • Activity: Using cups of different sizes, students will see which containers can hold the most
    • end of 9 weeks benchmark
  • F – Predictions – students will grab a handful of cubes. Make a prediction of how many they might be able to grab. Discuss: Why do you think they grabbed that many? Why weren’t they able to grab the same amount?
