Morning Activities and Journal Writing:

  • M – Introduce Writing Reference Folders: students will write sight words that they know in their Writing Reference Folders
  • T – students will use their writing reference folder for Halloween words, they will draw a “little” Halloween picture and write the word to finish the sentence prompt, I am a little (color word) _____.
  • W –Sight word/color word writing with toothpicks or sight word rubbings
  • Th – Have students glue a picture of what they can see and complete sentence, In the fall I can see a _____.
  • F – Sight Word Bingo: students prepare bingo board by putting any sight words or color words on their board

Morning Message:

  • M – Write a number or letter on the chart, call on students to find the correct color word to make the statement true.
  • T – make a list of words that begin with K
  • W – Write the missing letter (l) in the words lion, leaf, lamb, ladybug
  • Th – Fill in the missing words, match the numbers to tally marks, fix the sentence
  • F – Fill in the missing words, what is my sight word? Write the number word

Writing

  • M – Bat KWL chart, use sentence frames to write about Halloween Stickers. Have students write in journals using Halloween stickers.
  • T – Labeling a bat, Review  Writer reference folder, students will write about an idea they have in their head in their journals.
  • W – F– Making sentences about bats, students will complete a heart map and add to their writing reference folder, students will discuss steps writers take when writing, students will share writing and heart maps with class in authors chair

Reading:

  • Books – Mouse Paint, White Rabbit, Caps for Sale, Pete the Cat
  • Focus – color words, sight words, punctuation, characters, make predictions from the title and cover, discuss author and illustrator
  • Questions – Who is the main character?  What are some things she likes to do? What is a setting? Who is the book about?  What did character do?  How did the book end? How the story could be made better?
  • Sight words: color words
  • Poems:  Colors and Rainbow Hair
  • Activities- Students will draw the main character and the setting of the story. Students will draw something their favorite color and write the color word to label it. Students will locate punctuation in book. Students will color/label Pete the Cats shoes
  • Phonics Lessons – Hearing Words in Sentences and Hearing Rhymes

Math:

  • M – Rekenrek lesson, discuss that the ones you move over are “In play.” Those are the beads students will count. Discuss: What do you see? How do you see it?
    • Activity – Find It! Students will roll and dice find the same # of dots.
    • Create Measurement Chart

 

  • T – Race to Ten!/Race to Twenty – Students will roll the Dice (+1, +2, +3, -1, -2, -3) whatever is rolled, the students will put that me counters on or take that many away. The first to 10 or 20 wins!
    • Activity – Measuring with cubes, students will use measuring cubes to measure the measuring cards and record in math journal with pictures.
  • W –Roll and Record 2 (#s 2-9) students will roll dice and can write number in correct column.
    • Activity: students will use square tiles to measure their feet
  • Th –Little Shapes Book
    • Activity: students will use a balance scale to measure different items around the classroom to see what is heavier. Make a list of things that are heavier than us.
  • F – Predictions – students will grab a handful of cubes. Make a prediction of how many they might be able to grab. Discuss: Why do you think they grabbed that many? Why weren’t they able to grab the same amount?
    • Activity: Using cups of different sizes, students will see which containers can hold the most

Science – continue study on 5 senses

  • M – Bat fact videos, add to KWL chart
  • T – Label a bat
  • W –  Make bat facts picture
  • Th – Name differences between bats and birds
  • F – Fun Friday – make pumpkin scented cloud dough
