Weekly Plans and Activities for February 20-23

Morning Activities and Journal Writing (practice using sight words: of, have)

  • T – (of) What hatches out of an egg? journal writing
  • W –  (have) sight word book, When You Have A Pet
  • Th – Winter Fluency Find It Game
  • F – Last Name Graphing- How many letters are in your last name?),  Champs Assembly

Morning Message:

  • T – stretch out sound to write words with long a, i, count backwards from 25, fill in the ten frames
  • W –digraphs (sh, th, ch), using number bonds to write a number sentence, reading sight word sentences with expression and counting words in a sentence
  • Th –fill in the missing words to complete the sentence, decompose numbers, matching pictures to words
  • F – Champs Assembly

Writing

  • Introduce Animal Research, students will brainstorm and help write a list of animals, students will vote on the one that our class is going to research this week.
  • Write about facts, habitat, and diet of the animal chosen from our list
  • Continue Writing: 3rd We Deliver Class Letter, Continue Beginning, Middle, End Stories
  • Valentine Words and Inspiration Pages free writing, students will write a letter to someone in the school
  • Review Punctuation and Writing Checklist, review Writing A Letter anchor chart, introduce Story Retelling Map cards
  • Students will continue using their writing rubrics

  • Focus – NonFiction Vs. Fiction, features of nonfiction, sight words, chunks, Capitalization, Punctuation, Word Families
  • Questions – KWL chart, Retell Beginning, Middle, End…, In the Beginning…, Next…, At the end…, What does this remind you of (connections)
  • Phonics Lessons  and Activities- cvc words/boxes, blending, deleting final phonemes

Math: (model the action of separating to represent subtraction)

  • T – act out the 5 Green Speckled Frogs/write subtraction problems using the frogs/logs, create If You Were A Minus Sign subtraction picture for class book
  • W – Subtraction Smash, Race to 20 on Large Number Line, Subtraction Bowling
    Th – MIMIO: Number Strings, Word Problem (Rabbit eating carrots)
  • F – Read Who Stole the Cookie From the Cookie Jar and act out subtraction problems with cereal (cookies), students will  tell a subtraction story and then write a number sentence

Science/Social Studies

  • T – Pebble Go! Animal Research
  • T – Facts For Me, diet of animal
  • W – Facts For Me, habitat of animal
  • F – chart and vote for animal for group animal research next week, begin animal research for these animals
