February 11-15

It is hard to believe we are already in the middle of February. I hope everyone stayed warm this cold weekend. Our class is getting so excited about our upcoming Valentine’s Party this week! Here are a few reminders:

  • Our Valentine’s Party will be February 14th @ 11:00-12:00.
  • Please write a note in your child’s planner if you are able to help run one of the stations at the party or you can sign up using this link https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0445A8AC29A6FE3-valentines
  • Please help your child fill out a Valentine card for each student in our class and begin sending those in to our class as soon as you have them ready.
  • We will be decorating a “Valentine’s Day sack” this week to hold all of our Valentines cards.  We need your help with decorations!  If you have any stickers, hearts, glitter (anything that would be fun to decorate a bag), we would LOVE to use it to decorate our bags.
  • I am sending home a book order tomorrow and it will be due this Friday if you are interested in ordering any books, you can order online using this link https://orders.scholastic.com/RGQPG

  • Winter Fluency Find It Game – ending sounds

  • Continue working on beginning, middle, and end writing

Reading:

  • Discuss purpose for reading and listening to various texts
  • Make inferences about text and use textual evidence to support understanding.
  • Use titles and illustrations to make predictions about texts.

  • Phoneme Segmenting and Blending – Students will name the picture and segment the word into phonemes while slowly sliding the parts together 

 

Math:

  • solve word problems using objects and drawings to find sums up to 10
  • model the action of joining to represent addition
  • explain the strategies used to solve problems involving adding within 10 using words, pictures, and number sentences
  • Use foam hearts to create addition number sentences.
  • Sing or Read Five Little Monkeys and act out subtraction problems with monkey puppets.

    Lesson: MIMIO: Five Little Monkeys Subtraction (technology)

  • Math assessment (horseshoe)
  • Heart Counting – number sequencing 1-20 (journals)
  • Piggy Bank Addition: Have students pick some items from around the room (pencils, crayons, markers, books, etc…) to put price tags on. Allow the students to price items (1 cents, 10 cents etc…). Students will then pick 2 items to buy and add up their total using the piggy bank addition sheet. (math with a partner)

Writing

  • Continue making I Can Write 100 Words Class Chart
  • Interactive Writing – How to make a heart
  • Interactive Writing – Discuss what a noun is (person, place, or thing)

     

    Sing Song: What is noun? What is a noun? A person, place or thing, A person place or thing. (repeat) Or animal! Throughout the week we will chart nouns we love on hearts: Things we love…, People we love…, Places we love…

  • T Chart: Good for Your Teeth/Bad for Your Teeth (use magazines to cut out pictures)
  • Chart: Name that smile. Take a picture of each child’s mouth and have people guess who it belongs to.
