October 15-19

I hope everyone has had a good weekend! I am looking forward to a fun week next week as we begin learning about bats!

  • No School for Students October 19th (this is a teacher workday)
  • Send in 3D shapes if you haven’t already, our class loves presenting and sorting these shapes, it is such a fund way to learn our 3D shape names!
  • Watch D.O.G.S. kick-ff pizza party at the school cafeteria, Monday, October 15th 6:30-7:30
  • Continue sending in Sonic Limeades for Learning stickers and voting everyday for our project

This week we will be learning:

  • Sight Words:, continue learning all words and sight words: little, in
  • Reading: There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat, Bats, Yuck Soup, Little Red Hen
    • describe characters in story and discuss reasons for their actions
    • sequencing
    • rhyming picture match
    • erase a rhyme
    • focus on sight words (I, can, the, on, am, like, see, me, we, go, at, little, in), capital letters, punctuation
    • discuss the topic and details of nonfiction book
  • Poems:
    • Rainbow Hair (focus on color words)
    • Colors (focus on color words)
    • Mary Had A Little Lamb
  • Math:
    • number talks using ten frames, rekenreks, and dot cards
    • number of the day and discuss counting strategies
    • problem solving – which 3D shapes roll, stack, or slide?
    • sort 2D/3D shapes by attributes, graph 3D shapes, begin creating 3D shape Halloween House
    • continue Measurement (measurement cards using objects to measure)
    • Introduce New Game: Match numerals on cup to dots on gameboard
    • What does not belong? (shape attributes)
    • Counting Jar (counting items in a jar in 2 different ways and then creating that quantity using other items)

    • math rotation:
      • math by myself – QR code math write the room, In the Bag (pick bag, count objects inside, record amount)
      • math with a partner – 2D/3D Shape Sorting
      • math in writing- finish How Many Apples Tall are You? measure and then draw in journal, number map of #6
      • math in technology – shape and number osmo and math mimio, number sense games
      • Meet with Teacher – Dice to Ten Frame Bump game
  • Writing
    • Why do writers write? Make a chart discuss and list different reasons for writers to write
    • Use heart maps and journal covers to draw and write about something you love and know about.
    • Halloween Story: Discuss adding detail to our pictures. Draw a picture of halloween costume, write about where you will go on Halloween and write about what you will do. Discuss what makes a 3 Star Picture
    • journals – use sight words (color words and other sight words I, see, we, go, on, the, go, am, like, can, me, at, little, in)
    • writing about personal experiences (focus on starting sentences with a capital letter, spacing between words, punctuation), reference our heart maps to get ideas of what to write about
    • make our personal word wall in our writing folders
    • Use sentence frames to help us write
    • Halloween sticker stories

  • Social Studies/Science:
    • sharing family pictures and pages from our mascot and birthday journals
