October 8-12

It has been such a fun weekend celebrating Homecoming 2018! I loved seeing so many of you at the pep rally, game, and Roughneck Days. I hope everyone had a great time!

This week we will be learning:

  • I Love You Ritual song: Dancing Hands
  • Sight Words:color poems/songs (purple, pink, black, brown, white), introduce sight words: little, in
  • Reading: White Rabbits Color Book, Yuck Soup, Friends, The Day The Crayons Quit, Brown Bear, Brown Bear
    • story elements (character/setting/problem/solution)
    • rhyming picture match
    • erase a rhyme
    • focus on sight words (I, can, the, on, am, like, see, me, we, go, at), capital letters, punctuation
  • Poems:
    • Rainbow Hair (focus on color words)
    • Colors (focus on color words)
  • Math:
    • number talks using ten frames, rekenreks, and dot cards
    • number of the day and discuss counting strategies
    • problem solving – Who Has More?
    • sort 2D/3D shapes by attributes
    • continue Measurement (measurement cards using objects to measure)
    • How many ways can you make the number 10?
    • What does not belong? (shape attributes)
    • Counting Jar (counting items in a jar in 2 different ways and then creating that quantity using other items)
    • math rotation:
      • math by myself – 5 in a row game, ten frame write the room
      • math with a partner – Measuring Feet, QR Code Math/Ten Frames and 2D/3D Shape Sorting
      • math in writing- finish How Many Apples Tall are You? Measure and then draw in journal
      • math in technology – shape and number osmo and math mimio
      • Meet with Teacher – math apple baskets, sort numbers represented in different ways into corresponding basket
  • Writing
    • create class book, At School
    • journals – use sight words (color words and other sight words I, see, we, go, on, the, go, am, like, can, me, at, little, in)
    • writing about personal experiences (focus on starting sentences with a capital letter, spacing between words, punctuation), reference our heart maps to get ideas of what to write about
    • make our personal word wall in our writing folders
    • Use sentence frames to help us write
    • add a sentence to our fall pictures that we created and labeled
    • Halloween sticker stories
    • 3 Star Pictures and Adding Detail
    • Writing Center – take apart and put together sentences
    • Small, Tall, Short letters sort
  • Social Studies/Science:
    • sharing family pictures and pages from our mascot and birthday journals
    • pumpkin Investigation
    • pumpkin lifecycle
    • parts of a pumpkin
    • Fun Friday – free and centers and finish Leaf Art
    • Feeling Buddies: Lesson on breathing strategies to help us calm – draining and ballooning
