I hope everyone is having a great weekend! It was fun seeing so many of you at the Monster Truck Nationals last night! I know my family sure had fun!!

This week we will be learning:

  • We will begin using our busy bee folders and rotating to all busy bee stations this week.
  • We will continue name activities: name coconut trees, hidden names, Kindergarten Friends class book
  • I Love You Ritual song: Row, Row, Row Your Boat
  • Sight Words: on, the
  • Letters: Cc, Dd, Tt, Aa
  • Reading: Frog Food, My Home
    • rhyming picture match
    • erase a rhyme
    • focus on sight words (I, can, the, on, am and like), capital letters, punctuation 
  • Poems: I Like School, I Am, Leaves
  • Math:
    • number talks using ten frames, rekenreks, and dot cards
    • number of the day and discuss counting strategies
    • graphing how we get home each day
    • introduce new game: number sense memory
    • introduce math rotation:
      • math by myself
      • math with a partner
      • math in writing-(journal)
      • math in technology
      • Meet with Teacher
  • Writing
    • journals – use sight words on/the, continue making sentences using environmental print, writing about feelings and our favorite breathing strategies
    • writing about our 5 senses while exploring apples
    • Which Apple Did You Like Best graph
    • Apple Facts (take apart and put together sentences)
    • How To Make Applesauce
    • Small, Tall, Short letters sort
  • Social Studies/Science:
    • sharing about our families with the family pictures being sent in
    • sharing and reading environmental print being sent in
    • sharing the mascot and birthday journals,
    • sharing our writing pages
    • Will an Apple Sink or Float?
    • Apple Star Painting
    • Jumping Apple Seeds
    • Make Apple Sauce

Our class has loved learning about managing our feelings and emotions using the Feeling Buddies Toolkit! So far we have met and learned a little about each of our 8 Feeling Buddies: Happy, Sad, Angry, Scared, Calm, Disappointed, Frustrated and Anxious. This week we will learn about the difference between angry and frustrated. We will make class book called: Our Feeling Faces. We will also act out scenarios and practice using our breathing strategies to help us go from bug crazy mad to caterpillar calm.
