What We are Learning the Week of March 20-23

Morning Activities and Writing

  • T – Sight Word Concentration
  • W – March morning work packet and BME writing
  • Th – March morning work packet and BME writing

Morning Message:

  • Tuesday-Thursday: Daily Star Student – Share something with the class and write a sentence about what was said. Find letters, digraphs, blends in sentence. Fix mistakes (capitals, spacing, punctuation)

Writing

  • Interactive Writing – Roll A Fairy Tale Story (students will roll dice and use prompts to create a unique class fairy tale story with characters, setting, problem, and solution)
  • Interactive Writing – Create a map to Grandmother’s House for Little Red Riding Hood
  • Intro Into Fairy Tales Chart, retelling with popsicle stick puppets
  • Chart Story Elements of Little Red Riding Hood
  • Real/Make Believe Chart
  • Students will illustrate and write about their favorite part of Little Red Riding Hood
  • Easter Bunny Writing (Students will Write sentences to tell a story, If I were an Easter Bunny…Or How to catch an Easter Bunny…)
  • Leprechaun Student Directed Drawing
  • Continue Writing Beginning, Middle, End Stories
  • March/Easter Words and Inspiration Pages free writing
  • Students will continue using their writing rubrics and we will review Punctuation and Writing Checklist

Reading (focus: Recalling facts in non fiction texts, positional words, using post-its to jot thinking)

  • Books – Little Red Riding Hood, The Easter Egg
  • Poem – I’m An Easter Bunny; The Funny Man (practice using the sight word had)
  • Question of The Day  (practice using the sight word yes)
  • Phonics Lessons  and Activities- digraphs, cvc words/boxes, blending, deleting final phonemes

Math: (Identify U.S. Coins by name, including pennies, nickels, dimes, quarter; Collect, sort, and organize data into two or three categories)

  • Flower Sums using dominos
  • Measuring Eggs Practice using unifix cubes
  • Roll and Cover, Roll 2 dice, cover sum on corresponding egg
  • Easter Egg Spin and graph
  • Create a Counting by Tens Headband using a sentence strip
  • Number Talk: PowerPoint: What Does Not Belong? (Students will share which item does not belong and justify why.)
  • Coin Rubbings,  students will create a coin book and make coin rubbings.

Science/Social Studies

  • Easter Egg Stem Challenge
  • Grow a Bean In A Baggie, record observations
  • Peeps Experiment (water, heat, cold)
