WritingWeekly Plans and Activities for February 26-March 2

Morning Activities and Journal Writing (practice using sight words: home, not)

  • M – (home) journal writing – Draw a picture of your home and write a sentence about it. My home is brown. My home has 3 bedrooms, etc.
  • T –  (not) Draw two animals, one little and one big, write a sentence beside each animal. I am not little. I am little. Read Hubbard’s Cupboard reader: Animals at Night
  • W – Hidden picture, identify and color numbers to reveal a picture
  • Th – Make Dr. Seuss hat (at family)
  • F – Champs Assembly

Morning Message:

  • M –digraphs (sh, th), long, i, make groups with same, 2 more, 2 less,
  • T – stretch sounds/write words, rhyming words, counting 39-70, draw 10 frames to show how many
  • W –digraphs (sh, th, ch), reading with expression, write number sentences
  • T – fill in the missing words to complete the sentence, decompose numbers, matching pictures to words
  • F – Champs Assembly

Writing

  • Students will vote on 4 animals they would like to research the most and divide into four groups, this week each group will work together to research and write about facts, habitat, and diet of their groups chosen animal
  • Continue Writing: We Deliver Letters, Continue Beginning, Middle, End Stories
  • March Words and Inspiration Pages free writing
  • Students will continue using their writing rubrics and we will review Punctuation and Writing Checklist, review Writing A Letter anchor chart
  • There’s A Wocket In My Pocket Class book, students will design silly sentence strip hat and then make class book with them using preposition words

Reading

  • Books – There’s A Wocket In My Pocket, Green Eggs And Ham, Fox In Sox, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, Non Fiction Animal Books
  • Poem – Dr. Seuss – Look at me! Look at me NOW! It is fun to have fun But you have to know how.
  • Focus –Discuss Rhyming Words, Circle  Capital Letters, Underline punctuation marks, Highlight sight words, Look for chunks/word parts, match words
  • Phonics Lessons  and Activities- digraphs, cvc words/boxes, blending, deleting final phonemes

Math: (model the action of separating to represent subtraction)

  • M – sort and graph colored goldfish, Clear the Deck Game (roll dice and add or take away cubes, 1st to clear the deck wins!)
  • T – Subtraction Smash, Race to 20 on Large Number Line, Subtraction Bowling, MIMIO: Crayon Math, Graph (Are You Wearing Silly Socks?)
  • W – Chart different ways to show 10, early release
  • Th – Story Problems, Decomposing numbers (each group will make a chart)
  • F – Read and Graph: Do you like Green Eggs?

Science/Social Studies

  • M – learn facts about animals for animal research project – Jonathan Bird’s Blue World https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrkkQO9zVfA
  • T-W – Pebble Go and Facts For Me, diet and habitat of animal
  • Th – Make Oobleck! Write steps followed to make recipe
  • F – Make Green Eggs and Ham! Write steps followed to make recipe
