Weekly Plans and Activities

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year! I sure did miss this group. We have had a great first few days back!

Morning Activities and Journal Writing (practice using sight words: it, here, they, said)

  • M – Alphabet writing
  • T – sight word writing, continue winter writing
  • W – 2018 self portrait
  • Th – The Mitten (sight word reader)
  • F – Sight Word Memory

Morning Message:

  • M- diagraphs and middle sounds
  • T –fill in the missing sounds, count to 60, show 1 more than __ on the ten frame
  • W – blends (sl, pl, gl), write a number sentence
  • Th –fill in the missing words to complete the sentence, finish the number bonds
  • F – “ig” word family, rhyming words

Writing

  • Continue working on creating a book about a topic you are interested in with a partner
  • Interactive Writing: Winter Words, Winter Writing, Mitten Interactive Pocket Chart
  • Winter Words and Inspiration Pages free writing
  • Review Punctuation and Writing Checklist and Spaghetti and Meatball spaces charts
  • Labeling a Snowman
  • Snowsuit color and write

Reading:

  • Books – Snowmen at Night, The Mitten, The Snowy Day, The Biggest Snowman Ever
  • Poems – I’m a Little Snowman, The Apple Tree
  • Focus – rhyming words, sight words, chunks, Capitalization, Punctuation, Retelling, Beginning/Middle/End
  • Questions –When You Retell…, In the Beginning…, Next…, At the end…, What does this remind you of (connections)
  • Phonics Lessons  and Activities- ending sounds, vowels, diagraphs “ch” “sh”, CVC word boxes, sight word chants

Math: (solve word problems using objects and drawings to find sums up to 10, strategies used to solve problems involving adding within 10 using spoken words, concrete and pictorial models, and number sentences)

  • M – snowman number beanbag toss and ten frame, Read it, Draw it, Solve it Word Problem
  • T –  Comparing and Ordering Numbers-MIMIO, sorting number cards least to greatest
  • W –Read the book, If You Were a Plus Sign, students create their own picture story problem.
  • Th –use tiles to recreate quick images, then make number sentences from tiles used
  • F –Different ways to make 5 and number sentences

Science/Social Studies:

  • M –Mystery Doug – Why is snow white, Why does it get cold in the winter?
  • T – animal research on Pebblego
  • W – Social Studies – Weather
