What We Are Learning the Week of November 27-December 1

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break! I enjoyed spending time with family and friends. It is hard to believe that we are already on week 14 at school! It sure was nice to see everyone back at school yesterday. We had a great day! Our class really enjoyed making a graph of favorite Christmas songs. Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer took the lead!

Weekly Plans and Activities

Morning Activities and Journal Writing (practice using sight words: he, she)

  • M –draw and write about your Christmas Wish list
  • T – Sight Word Book: Ready for Christmas?
  • W – Write sentences using “he” and “she”.  (He) is a firefighter. Draw pictures to show occupations.
  • Th –Write sentence using “and” and two foods that you like: Ex: I like strawberries and pizza.
  • F –  free writing or finish up a writing you have started that is in your writing folder, add Christmas/Winter word bank to writing resource folder

Morning Message:

  • M- Discuss Christmas Tree Graph Results/Read it Right Practice
  • T –Difference between b, p, & q
  • W – what numbers are missing/Deleting Final Phonemes Practice
  • Th –CVC Word Scramble
  • F –Rhyme Away! #3– students listen to story and erase rhymes

Writing

  • Continue working on creating a book about a topic you are interested in with a partner
  • Interactive Writing: How to Decorate a Christmas Tree/My Five Senses at Christmas
  • How to Write a Letter
  • Write santa letters with the teacher in small group
  • December Words and Inspiration Pages free writing

Reading:

  • Book –Too Much Stuff, Pete the Cat Groovy Buttons, Pete the Cat Saves Christmas, The Gingerbread Man, The Gingerbread Man
  • Poems – 5 Little Gingerbread Men (focus on sight words and color words)
  • Focus –Inferencing, Retelling
  • Questions –Inferencing/When You Retell…
  • Phonics Lessons  and Activities- deleting final phonemes, beginning sounds, rhyming words, CVC word boxes, sight word chants

Math: (Comparing sets of objects up to 20 using comparative language)

  • M-F –  Number Talks: (Number Strings and Dot Cards) Christmas Subtilizing, Problem Solving with the Gingerbread Problem
  • M – Favorite Christmas Song graph, Christmas Tree Graph, discuss observations and how to read results, Christmas tree number mix up (arrange numerals 11-20 in the correct order),
  • T – Discussion on Comparing Sets of Numbers, Counting Backward using number strip, Christmas Spin and Graph
  • W – Making teen numbers using magnetic numbers, Adding w/cotton marshmallows
  • Th –Review Ways I Can Do Math chart, Problem Solving – Ornament Problem, Four In A Row – Students work with a partner, taking turns turning over 5 frame cards. Each student says how many more dots are needed to make 5 and covers that number on the playing board. The first player to get 4 in a row, wins!
  • F – Count Around the Room, Counting with Christmas Trees and Poof Balls, Comparing using sentence strip and card game

Science/Social Studies:

  • M – Library
  • T – needs/wants activity, Mystery Doug
  • W – candy cane science experiment
  • T -matter (creating snowman ornament from glue)
  • F – Make Gingerbread Play-Doh!!!
